Do Fat People Repulse You?

This is a question I asked on Yahoo! in October 2008 and the world answered in a very big way.

With thousands of replies, emails, posts and the article being shared on the faceless internet, people were finally able to talk about a subject that makes both FAT & FIT people squirm.

The answers I got shocked me in to sharing the results with the world and keeping the dialouge going.

With obesity as the biggest preventable, curable and ever-growing problem in America, we NEED to discuss this subject and help ourselves fix this problem.

I wonder how many of you fatties that "love yourself"

are single. Probably all of you. I can't stand fat people.

Thank you for sharing what you posted. The truth is, Yes, fat people have always repulsed me since I was very young. My brother was heavy and I was not only thin but skinny. I grew up, he did too, and life happens. I was in a serious accident and began to gain weight. Now we are both much older and both obese - but in my head, I am still repulsed by fat. Whether I see someone on the street or look in a mirror at myself it doesn't change what my instinctual reaction is - I don't like it. That is truth, and maybe a part of our programming because we know that thinner is healthier. I too have more compassion now for others but it doesn't change what's inside my head, and I doubt it ever will.

I am absolutely repulsed by fat people. I am 5'10" and weigh 180lb.It takes a lot of deication to diet and exercise to stay in this condition,as I work two jobs for a total of 60 hours a week,as well as having three kids to tend to.But I do it.For my health, and to be healthy and productive for my wife and kids.If I can do it,any fatass can do it.They are pathetic and lazy, and have no control over themselves.

The only type of peson that repulses me, are those that "Open mouth Insert foot." I've been skinny, small, medium and large. I am short, so when I gained 40 pounds in two years, I would get comments like, "Gee I never thought you would ever get that way." I'm still the same person, only bigger. People can be cruel. I have lost some weight, because I had injured myself in June, and I am in physical therapy so I can walk far distances again. I've become older, wider, but I love myself. That's all that counts.

This topic, for me, has many parts. First I will say that some do just make me sick, but I'm not talking about how big they are. I have seen some big people go in to a store and do their shopping like everyone else and the ones that get me are the ones that keep on taking the motor carts because they do not want to walk. In my town you see that quit a bit. So what happens when you see a person that needs it come in and they are not there? Any way the other thing that make me upset with the over weight population is the kids that are getting out of control and the parents don't mind. Yet they will complain to the school about the lunch program and have the school events changed to met the needs of their kid. Which means that the school can not do the holidays the same as when I was a kid, and lets face it that was the best part of school. I understand that there should be a limit on the amount of crap that a kid can eat but what do they think will happen by taking away three days of the year that kids can eat junk food in school? the rest is on the parents of the kids and they are the ones not doing enough just finger pointing. But any way as for the question I would say no but there are cases that just make me sick.

I, myself have been on both ends of the spectrum and in between as well. I have been anorexic and bulimic and have been hugely overweight due to a medication that caused me to be constantly hungry, and this is one of the reasons it was pulled of the market for awhile. Then I was a gym rat and looked pretty damn good up until I was in a falling accident and suffered multiple injuries, the most serious being a spinal injury. If you have ever suffered a spinal injury, you know how miserable your recovery was. It is excrutiatingly painful to move. As a result, I put on weight again. I can't exactly work out like I used to, as I'm still in physical therapy. My point is that people need to stop being so damn ignorant. I'm so sick and tired of being called lazy or stupid. My biggest pet peeve is when people act like you don't know you've put on weight, by the way they look at you, talk to you, or act around you. Hope the ignorant people realize that karma's a b---- .

I have a distant cousin who lives in another state, but who I recently saw on a visit, she's very overweight and is the type of person who complains that she doesn't look good in her clothes while stuffing a McDonald's breakfast down her throat, I'm not really repulsed by these people, I just don't have any respect for them for what they're doing to themselves.
